Sugar Mixture for Cookie Dough

½ cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
½ vanilla

Mix thoroughly.

Dry Ingredients for Cookie Dough

1 ¾ cups flour
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt

Blend dry ingredients together. Add to sugar mixture.

Date-Nut Filling

¾ lb. moist pitted dates, cutup
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
½ cup finely chopped nuts

Cook these ingredients in saucepan until slightly thickened, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat. Cool. Stir in nuts.

Divide dough in half. Roll each piece of dough into rectangle about 11 x 7”. Spread rectangles with Date-Nut Filling. Roll up tightly, beginning at wide side. Pinch edge to seal. Wrap each roll in waxed paper and chill several hours.

Cut in ¼” slices. Place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 400º about 10 minutes.
