½ c Butter, softened
½ c Shortening
1-1/2 c Sugar
2 Eggs
2-3/4 c Flour (half whole wheat)
2 tsp Cream of tartar
1 tsp Baking soda
¼ tsp salt
2 Tbls Sugar
2 tsp Cinnamon
Heat oven to 400˚. Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, 1-1/2 c sugar, and the eggs. Blend in flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt (mixed together). Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls.
Mix 2 Tbls sugar and the cinnamon; roll balls in mixture. Place 2” apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
About 6 dozen cookies
May also roll in colored sugar rather than cinnamon sugar.
Ginny used this recipe for a science fair experiment one year. Which is better, using sugar or honey in Snickerdoodles? Sugar won, hands down.
