Thoroughly cream
1-1/2 c butter or margarine
1 c sugar
Add and beat well
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp almond extract
Sift together
4 c sifted enriched flour
1 tsp baking powder
Add gradually to creamed mixture, mixing to a smooth dough.
Force dough through cookie press onto ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate with colored sugar, cinnamon candies, jelly stings, or candied pineapple. Bake in hot oven (400˚) 8 to 10 minutes.
Makes 4 dozen.
At Christmastime, my mother would put green food coloring in these and press them through a wreath or Christmas tree press. She’d decorate them with colored sugar and a cinnamon candy. She had a Santa press, too, but she didn’t put food coloring in those.
